Practices
Rituals and ceremonies inviting you to slow down, listen within, and return to a living connection with yourself and the present moment.
The theme of Gabya Isle Rituals 2026 is Ancestors.
KŪLGRINDA
Kūlgrinda is a Romuva ceremonial music group closely connected to the ancient Baltic worldview and traditions. The group does not function as a typical concert ensemble – their music is most often heard in rituals, seasonal celebrations, and community gatherings, where presence, process, and meaning are central.
Kūlgrinda is associated with the Romuva movement, and the group’s leader, Inija Trinkūnienė, Krivė of Krivės, continues to nurture the Baltic faith and living tradition in Lithuania. During the festival, the group will lead the opening ceremony at the Gabija shrine on August 28, 2026 at 16:00 and the closing ceremony on August 30, 2026 at 15:00. Throughout the festival, we will gather with Kūlgrinda’s members to chant sutartinės by Gabija’s sacred flame – in a shared circle with our ancestors and the Deities.
MANTAS MAZILIAUSKAS
Mantas Maziliauskas is an artist, architect, and educator whose work integrates architecture, painting, sculpture, installation, and poetry. His creative practice unfolds at the intersection of art, architecture, and spatial experience.
At the core of Mantas’ artistic philosophy is a sense of “wind-ness” – living, vibrating spaces in which forms shift with even the slightest movement of creation.
Since the very beginning of the “Gabya” festival, Mantas has been building the Gabija shrine with his own hands – first erected in 2021 in Smiltynė. Here, by Gabija’s sacred flame, tradition takes on tangible form, and the community gathers to honor the ancestors, Baltic culture, and the living energy of the Earth.
As the “Gabya” festival moves to the Kaunas Lagoon peninsula, we continue our creative friendship with Mantas – just as in 2025, in 2026 he will once again establish the Gabija shrine, consecrating this land and the community.
